Anger was simmering among villagers on Saturday in Uttarkashi district after a young girl’s body was found hanging in a tourist resort in Kaflaon area, police sources said.

Scores of villagers gathered outside the Uttarakashi district hospital where a postmortem of Amrita Rawat (18) of Bhamkoli village was conducted following which the body was kept in the mortuary. The villagers refused to take back the body and alleged that the girl was murdered in the resort. “In the postmortem the death was shown due to choking. But the scene at the resort where the body was found was different. Hence, we want second postmortem of the body,” said Chatar Singh Rana, an uncle of Rawat.

Rawat was working in the resort Kaflon Basics where she also used to look after the children of its owner Anil Kuriyal.

“Our daughter was not under any kind of stress and she was a normal human being. So there is no reason why our child should end her life in the resort,” Rana said.

Two people, including Kuriyal owner of the resort have been picked up for questioning. Villagers also claimed that since the owners of the resort were influential people, attempts are being made to show the death due to suicide.

Rawat’s body was found hanging on Friday in the resort following which her family members rushed there after getting a phone call. When they reached the resort, they saw Rawat’s body was hanging from a room and her feet were almost touching ground. They soon started suspecting some foul play.

When contacted, top police officials said they were conducting the investigations. “We are conducting investigations and we can only say something when we reach some conclusion,” said a police officer.

Last year, Ankita Bhandari, a young receptionist, was allegedly murdered by Pulkit Arya, the owner, at a resort where she was working near Rishikesh. Ends
