The Uttarakhand police on Monday recovered a 2-year-old child Vikas who was sold for Rs 2 lakh and arrested the main accused who is his maternal uncle from Uttar Pradesh.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dehradun, Ajai Singh said Vikas has been handed over to his mother.
Acting on a complaint of a woman named Reena on Jan 2, a resident of Yamuna Colony in Dehradun, regarding the kidnapping of her two sons – Akash (5) and Vikas (2), the police launched investigations and registered a case under section 137 (2) of the BNS.
The SSP said that during the investigation it was revealed that Rakesh (52) used to visit his cousin Reena’s house frequently in Yamuna Colony. Last time, Rakesh was seen with Akash at the colony gate on the evening of January 2. Both Rakesh and Reena are residents of Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. As Rakesh came to know about the police complaint, he immediately dropped Akash at Yamuna Colony but kept Vikas with him.
After investigations it was found that Rakesh, who works as a gardener and cleaner in the Ordnance Factory Dehradun, had involved one Rahul also. When their mobile phones were put on surveillance, it was found that they were in contact with each other. It was also found that Rahul’s daughter Tania (20) was also involved and had kept the child in captivity.
After getting information that police was looking for them, the trio fled away from Dehradun and switched off their mobile phones. Later, it was found that the three were hiding at Rahul’s aunt’s place in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. The police raided and arrested Rakesh and Tania, but Rahul could not be traced.
During interrogation, Rakesh and Tania told the police that they had sold Vikas to Priyanka and Santy in Dhampur area of Uttar Pradesh for Rs 2 lakh. The police reached Dhampur with the accused and arrested Priyanka (22) and Santy (25).
During interrogation, Priyanka and Santy told that they had resold the child to a family living in Sarkathal Shivala in Dhampur. After this, the police reached that family and recovered the child.
During interrogations, Rakesh revealed that he had sold his own two children also in the past. The police have also started investigating in this regard.
The SSP has announced a reward of Rs 25,000 to the police team that recovered the child.
