At a time when big states like Gujarat and Bihar are performing poorly, the hosts Uttarakhand, a relatively small state, made a phenomenal jump to sixth place as it won six more gold medals on Saturday in the 38th National Games in the hill state.
So far, Uttarakhand, which was on 11th place on Friday, has won 62 medals with 14 golds, 22 silvers and 26 bronzes. Uttarakhand on Friday won ten more medals including three golds. Uttarakhand has been improving its medal tally gradually. On Feb 3, Uttarakhand was on 19th place.
Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) continued to remain on top of the medal tally.
In the last few days, the contest for the top has intensified between SSCB comprising Army, Air Force and Navy and Karnataka in the National Games. SSCB, Karnataka and Maharashtra have showed remarkable performance so far in different events.
SSCB has so far bagged 71 medals including 42 golds. Karnataka was on the second place winning 58 medals including 30 golds.
Maharashtra moved to third place winning a whopping 113 medals with 25 golds. Maharashtra is the only state which has touched three-figure mark in the medal tally.
Madhya Pradesh has also delivered commendable performance as it was placed at fourth position bagging 50 medals with 19 golds.
Haryana continued to remain on the fifth place winning 72 medals with 18 golds. Tamil Nadu was relegated to seventh place bagging 54 medals with 14 golds.
Manipur was on eighth place winning 38 medals including 12 golds. Till Sunday, Manipur was on the top of the medal tally.
Meanwhile, Bihar and Gujarat, two big states have performed badly in the National Games. Gujarat was at 22nd place bagging 18 medals including three golds.
On the other hand, Bihar which bagged only nine medals with one gold was on 28th place. The performance of Andhra Pradesh, another big state, was also not being appreciated in the National Games where it has won only ten medals including four golds and was placed at 19th place.
