Uttarakhand excels as it crosses 100-medal mark

Hosts Uttarakhand on Thursday scaled new heights in sports when it crossed 100-medal mark in the 38th National Games.

With hours left for the fortnight long event coming to an end on Friday, Uttarakhand has showed remarkable performance so far by winning 24 golds for 102 overall medals. Only Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) comprising Army, Air Force and Navy, Maharashtra and Haryana have crossed 100-medal mark so far in the games which began on Feb 28.

After remaining on sixth place for a short time, Uttarakhand moved to 7th place even as it continued to win more medals. On Feb 3, Uttarakhand was on 19th place.

SSCB has streaked far ahead in the gold medal race as it remained on the top of the medal tally winning 68 golds leaving Maharashtra, Haryana and Karnataka and other competitors far behind. The SSCB has won 121 medals including 26 silver and 27 bronze medals.

Maharashtra on the other hand has won 197 medals but remained on the second position as it won 54 golds.

Haryana considerably improved its medal tally by moving up to third place. Haryana has so far won 153 medals with 48 golds.

Karnataka slipped to fourth place winning 80 medals including 34 golds.

Madhya Pradesh has also delivered commendable performance as it was placed at fifth position bagging 80 medals with 32 golds.

Manipur slipped further down to 11th place winning 55 medals including 14 golds. Earlier, Manipur was on the top of the medal tally.

Jammu and Kashmir stood at 19th place winning five golds.
