UPCL wins praise for installing 8000 rooftop solar plants

The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has come in for praise for installing more than 8000 rooftop solar plants till the month of November against the target of 10,000 units in the financial year 2024-25.

During her two day visit to Dehradun, Mini PrasannaKumar, Deputy Director General, MNRE, Government of India successfully concluded the site visit program to review the progress of PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme and PM Kusum Scheme along with other renewable energy sources schemes in Dehradun.

Senior officials of UPCL, UREDA, Minor Irrigation Department as well as members of State Level Bankers Committee and solar vendors also participated in the meeting. The DGM expressed appreciation for the installation of more than 8,000 plants by UPCL till the month of November against the target of installing 10,000 roof top solar plants in the financial year 2024-25 and also praised other important points including the progress of filling application for plant installation, selecting vendor, inspection of plants and subsidy release processes.

On behalf of UPCL, the nodal officer of Solar Cell, Ashish Arora, Chief Engineer, informed the DGM that UPCL is working as a nodal unit for the successful implementation of PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme in Uttarakhand and till date, more than 8,000 solar roof top plants of about 32 MW capacity have been installed by UPCL under the scheme.

It was also informed that people are participating enthusiastically in the scheme and they are also being provided subsidy on time. Till date, more than 300 authorized solar vendors are registered in Uttarakhand from whom solar roof top plants are being installed at homes by consumers.

Recently, a two-day training program on the subject of grid connected roof top solar system was also organized by NPTI for regional officers at the headquarters of UPCL, in which information was obtained about grid connected roof top solar system under “PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme”. In a meeting with the members of the State Level Bankers Committee, the DGM called for easing the procedures for providing loans to the consumers installing solar plants. Apart from this, in the two-day program, the DGM Prasannakumar also conducted a field inspection of various work sites under the PM Surya Ghar and PM Kusum Yojana and praised the progress of the state of Uttarakhand in the field of solar energy.
