The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) has constructed four new 33/11 kV substations in the past two years and about 242 km of 33 kV, 2045 km of 11 kV and 4101 km of LT lines have been established across the state, a top company official said on Friday.

About 8266 distribution transformers have been installed to maintain electricity balance on all the channels across the state. Also, 189804 new electricity connections have been installed in the last two years, the official said.

“The UPCL has made unprecedented progress in the power distribution sector in the last few years. Along with providing electricity to every village and every house in the state, there have been positive changes in the lifestyle of the common people,” the official said.

To give more impetus to the extensive changes taking place in the development of the industrial sector of Uttarakhand, the power distribution sector has become strong. In the past few years, the UPCL has established a strong power distribution system as well as taken important steps to improve operational and business efficiency.

Special emphasis is also being laid to ensure high quality electricity supply to the consumers. Under the RDSS scheme of the Government of India, the installation of smart prepaid meters for about 16 lakh consumers across the state will prove to be a boon for the consumers. Additionally, smart meters will be installed at 59,212 distribution transformers and 2,602 substations to improve energy accounting, thereby increasing digitalisation, automation and efficiency of the power system and also reducing power losses.
