Union Budget: Centre allocates Rs 4641 cr to boost rail network in UK

Highlights:

Between 2009-14, a total budget of Rs 187 crore was allocated to the state, which is 25 times more than this time

– 11 railway stations of Uttarakhand are being developed as Amrit stations

– 49 percent of the work of 125 km Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project has been completed, the cost of the project is Rs 24,659 crore

– 96 percent of the work of Deoband – Roorkee rail line is complete, 27.5 km project is being built at a cost of Rs 1,053 crore

– ⁠63 km Kichha – Khatima rail line will be built at a cost of ₹ 228 crores

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday said Uttarakhand has been allocated Rs 4641 crore in the new Budget for various rail projects to further strengthen the network.

Speaking on the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project, Vaishnaw said that 49 percent of the work of this 125 km project has been completed, the total cost of which is ₹ 24659 crores. He said that this project is a highly ambitious project of the government. He said 96 percent of the work of the Deoband-Roorkee rail line has been completed, the total cost of which is ₹ 1,053 crore. This rail line is 27.5 km long. It was also informed that the 63 km Kichha-Khatima rail line project will be built at a cost of ₹ 228 crores.

He said 69 km of new rail tracks have been laid in Uttarakhand since 2014. Also, 303 km of rail lines have been electrified in the same period. During 2009-14, this figure was zero, he said. “Today every railway line in the state has been electrified. At present, work is going on in the state on 3 rail projects (railway tracks) of 216 km, the cost of which is ₹ 25,941 crore.

Along with this, 11 stations including Dehradun, Haridwar Junction, Harrawala, Kashipur Junction, Kathgodam, Kichha, Kotdwar, Lal Kuan Junction, Ramnagar, Roorkee and Tanakpur are being developed as Amrit stations at a cost of 147 crores.

New 100 rail flyovers and under bridges have been constructed in the state since 2014.

Six lifts, 14 escalators have been constructed at the stations for the passengers and WiFi facility is available for passengers at 31 stations. Apart from this, two Vande Bharat trains are successfully serving in the state.

He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said a total of 2.52 lakh crores have been allocated to the Railways in the new budget. Vaishnav has also thanked Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for this allocation.
