Two sisters were drowned in the Ganga canal when they tried to save their brother at Bhadrabad area of Haridwar district of Uttarakhand, police said on Monday.
“In Bahadarabad area of Haridwar district on Sunday, while bathing at a ghat on the Ganga canal, two sisters after seeing their brother being drowned in the Ganga canal also jumped into the water to save him. While the brother was rescued, the two sisters were swept away by its strong currents,” a police official said.
The incident took place in the afternoon at the Chhath Puja Ghat on the Ganga canal on Bahadarabad-Sidkul road, where while bathing, a 12-year-old boy, Vansh, started drifting in the strong current of water. To save their brother, his two sisters- Isha (14) and Manisha (15) jumped into the Ganga canal. Police said that the people present there somehow saved the brother, but both the sisters were swept away by the strong current of the Ganga canal.
The victims belong to Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh but were currently residing in Bhadrabad.
