The two-day Saur Kauthig, a fair for promoting rooftop solar energy in Uttarakhand, concluded in Dehradun on Wednesday.
On the second day, important issues related to rooftop solar were discussed as Additional Secretary (Energy) and Director UREDA Ranjana Rajguru, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) Managing Director Anil Yadav and other top officials threw light on the need to install rooftop solar panels.
One of the highlights of the event was the inauguration of a mobile solar van that will travel around Dehradun and other places in the hill state showcasing the benefits of the rooftop solar systems. A campaign has also been launched in this regard.
The main focus of the campaign is on simplifying the process of adopting solar energy through user-friendly processes and financial benefits of clean energy production.
The saur Kauthing has brought together policy makers, solar developers, manufacturers, DISCOMs and financial institutions to provide consumers with complete information on adopting solar energy. It has highlighted the various benefits of rooftop solar panels, including ease of installation, central and state government subsidies, as well as long-term savings on electricity bills. Apart from this, mural art has also been created so that the curiosity of the common people about this pollution free energy can be aroused and they can be encouraged to do in-depth research about solar energy solutions.
The campaign Saur Samriddh Uttarakhand Abhiyan is in line with Uttarakhand’s Solar Policy 2023, which aims to achieve a target of 2500 MW through solar power by 2027, which includes 1,400 MW from distributed solar systems like households and industries.
The aim of this policy is to make rooftop solar the cornerstone of the state’s energy transformation. According to a study, Uttarakhand has a potential of about 1 GW of rooftop solar on residential roofs.
In his address at the conclusion of the state’s first solar fair, UPCL MD said that UPCL is committed to achieving the target of 2500 Mw by 2027 as per the vision of the Prime Minister. He said that UPCL has achieved a record by installing 100% solar roof top plants before the target under PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
