The Union Ministry of Power has given its consent to TUESCO, a new joint venture company of UJVNL and THDCIL to set up 320 Mw thermal power plant.
On the request of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Ministry of Power, Government of India has given in-principle consent to the joint venture of UJVN Limited and THDC India Limited for setting up a coal-based thermal power plant, an official statement said on Wednesday. The proposed site for the thermal plant will be decided later, official sources said.
Due to the on-going power shortage, the Chief Minister had informed the centre that his government is willing to set up a coal-based thermal power plant through TUESCO, joint venture of THDC and UJVN Limited.
The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) also strongly recommended the supply of coal to the state of Uttarakhand for the purpose of generating 1320 MW thermal power. In this regard, the Uttarakhand government agreed to set up a thermal power plant through TUECO.
The state-run Coal India Limited can allow the supply of coal to the production companies of the Central and State Governments and their joint ventures at notified rates. It was proposed that a joint venture of THDC and UJVN Limited (TUECO) should apply for coal allocation. The electricity produced after coal allocation will definitely improve the power system of the state.
UJVN MD Dr Sandeep Singhal has welcomed the move and said it would help the state to tide over the power shortage.
