A day after they breathed in the fresh air, all the 41 workers who were rescued last evening from the collapsed Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand, had a sound sleep in a nearby Chinyalisaur hospital after 17 long days.

And when they woke up early Wednesday morning, they also saw for the first time the sun that brightly rose from the hills. This was the scene that they witnessed after remaining trapped in the darkness. “The sun looks so beautiful in the morning in the hills,” said Sabah Ahmed, a foreman, who was among the 41 workers.

With big smiles on their faces, most of the workers were seen doing morning rituals like taking bath gleefully. As they began their daily chore, they kept raising slogans like “bharat mata ki jai.” Just before the noon, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami joined them at Chinyalisaur hospital where he handed over a cheque of Rs one lakh each to all the workers. A couple of workers also took selfie with the Chief Minister.

The workers had arrived at the hospital last night soon after they were evacuated. The major breakthrough came after the 17-days long suspense-ridden rescue operation on Tuesday. Soon after they came out, jubilations went through the tunnel as the workers joined rescuers to celebrate the occasion which became big global news.

Last night, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had conversation with the workers saying he was a bit impatient and could not wait for long. He praised Sabah and Gabar Singh Negi for showing leadership skills during their confinement inside the tunnel.  During this conversation, most of the workers showered Dhami and other rescue workers with lots of praises.
