THDC India Limited, a leading power generation company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan government for the development of two Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) totally 1600 Mw with a proposed investment of Rs 8800 crores.
A company statement said these projects include Bisanpura PSP (800 MW) in Bundi district and Rampura PSP (800 MW) Tonk district and entailing a proposed investment of ₹8,800 crores, said R. K. Vishnoi, CMD THDCIL which is headquartered in Rishikesh.
The agreements were signed during the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Meet on Sept 30 in the presence of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and state Youth Affairs and Sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister congratulated the management of THDCIL for the successful signing of the MoU and conveyed his full support and cooperation to ensure the effective implementation and early completion of the projects. “This collaboration marks a significant advancement in Rajasthan’s energy infrastructure and reinforces the commitment to enhancing the state’s renewable energy capabilities,” Sharma said.
Vishnoi said the agreement outlines the development of both PSPs as off stream closed-loop PSPs, optimizing water usage for enhanced energy efficiency. The Bisanpura PSP will source water from the Gudha Dam, located approximately 12 km away while the Rampura PSP will utilize water from the existing Bisalpur Reservoir.
This strategic approach ensures a reliable supply while minimizing environmental impact, allowing both projects to contribute significantly to sustainable energy solutions through efficient energy storage, thereby enhancing grid stability.
He expressed his confidence in this collaboration, highlighting the company’s strong track record in developing hydro projects, including the construction of one of the largest Pumped Storage Plants in the country, the Tehri PSP (1,000 MW). He emphasized that the Bisanpura and Rampura are not just projects but vital components in achieving Rajasthan’s renewable energy goals. He stated, “These projects will harness our expertise in hydro technology, ensuring efficient energy storage and sustainable solutions that benefit both the environment and the local economy. We are committed to working closely with the Government of Rajasthan to bring these projects to fruition.
Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), THDCIL, highlighted the technical prowess of THDCIL and the importance of the PSPs to the region, he added that these Pumped Storage Projects are designed to provide not only reliable energy storage and generation but also foster local employment and infrastructural development. Each project is likely to create around more than 25 Lakh Direct/Indirect manpower Hours, significantly benefiting the local communities.
The MoU was signed by Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), THDCIL, and Ajitabh Sharma, Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Government of Rajasthan at Hotel Taj Man Singh, Delhi. This collaboration marks a significant advancement in Rajasthan’s energy infrastructure and reinforces the commitment to enhancing the state’s renewable energy capabilities.
