The southwest monsoon on Thursday set in over Kerala and advanced into most parts of northeast India, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Despite the dust storm in the early morning, the intense heat wave conditions on Thursday continued to torment people in Dehradun which recorded 42.8 degree C, seven notches above the normal. The heat wave conditions in Haridwar and other plains of Uttarakhand continued unabated.

The minimum temperature also rose menacingly to 29.3 degree which was also 7.3 notches above the normal. A dust storm lashed Dehradun and surrounding areas in the early morning with light showers. “Yes we agree that there was no impact of the early morning dust storm,” said Bikram Singh Director Met office Dehradun.

Singh said parts of Uttarkahand are likely to witness some light showers from Saturday which would give some respite from the heat wave to the people.
