After a long dry-spell, the plains and hilly areas in northern India including Uttarakhand on Wednesday experienced rainfall with higher reaches receiving snowfall that brought back chilly conditions.
From Jammu and Kashmir to Uttarakhand, snowfall was occurring intermittently in many areas with rains in the plains including the national capital region.
Met office said the snowfall and rains are likely to continue for one or two days. “There may be clear sky on Jan 3 but again on Jan 4 we may experience rainfall and snow,” said Bikram Singh, head of the met office in Dehradun.
With the Met department predicting snowfall and rains in Uttarkahand, clouds on Wednesday morning started forming in the sky in Dehradun and many other areas of the hill state. By the evening, Chakrata and many other parts including Badrinath, Kedarnath and other high areas in Uttarakhand started receiving heavy snowfall.
Some people shared the pictures of snowfall in Chakrata area of Dehradun with people singing local Jaunsari songs as a welcome gesture.
Besides, there are likely chances of thunderstorm accompanied with hail/lightning and rains at isolated places in Uttarakhand today and tomorrow.
Though there was a slight rise in the minimum temperature in the past two days, the temperature is likely to fall in the next few days.
