Snowfall on Monday lashed several parts of Uttarkahand, Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir with rain falling in the plains which intensified cold wave conditions in the entire region.
Tourists rejoiced snowfall in Shimla by posting videos and pictures of the snowfall at the Ridge and other nearby areas.
Auli, Chakrata, Dhanaulti and several other parts of Uttarakhand also experienced moderate snowfall. Mussoorie experienced light snowfall in the day time for nearly one hour.
Badrinath and Kedarnath areas were also hit by heavy snowfall.
Several parts of Kashmir valley and adjoining areas also lashed by snowfall with the Dal Lake almost freezing in Srinagar.
The Met department in Dehradun said several areas in the hills are likely to experience snowfall in the next 24 hours intensifying cold wave conditions in the entire region. The western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation layover north Pakistan and neighboring areas due to which light to moderate rainfall and snowfall likely to occur in parts of western Himalayan region on Monday and Tuesday, the IMD said.
Another active western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region from Dec 26 which may bring further snowfall and rainfall in the north India, it said.
