Snowfall amid warning of hotter days ahead

Amid the warning of hotter days ahead, the snowfall has comeback with a vengeance in the Himalayas.

From Afghanistan to Uttarakhand, the heavy snowfall during the past 24 hours has severely affected the normal life bringing back the cold conditions.

In Aghanistan, many people have perished due to heavy snowfall in the past 24 hours, media reports said.

Similarly, the heavy snowfall has severely affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Snowfall has also been reported in many areas in the neighbouring Nepal.

The higher reaches of Uttarakhand received heavy snowfall during the past 24 hours brining back cold conditions in the hill state.

Incessant rains also lashed the plains disrupting normal life in Dehradun, Haridwar and other areas.

Badrinath, Kedarnath, Auli and other higher areas in the Garhwal region were experiencing heavy snowfall. Rains also triggered landslides in many areas in the region.

People have also shared videos of snowfall in areas like Chakrata, Dhanaulti and other hill resorts on X and various social media platforms.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said India is likely to experience a warmer start to the summer season this year with the prevalent of El Nino conditions.
