India’s ace shuttler Lakshya Sen was on Sunday beaten by world no 2 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in straight sets 20-22, 14-21 in the semi-final of the men’s singles badminton in Paris Olympics.
Sen will now meet Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia for the bronze medal tomorrow at around 6 pm.
Sen’s poor service on a couple of occasions and Axelsen’s big smashes made the huge difference in the match.
In the first set, Sen had clear chance to take the lead as he was ahead by 3 game points. In the first point, he served poorly giving ample time to Axelsen to recover and win the set.
In the second set, Axelsen kept his dominance as he made big smashes to unnerve Sen.
Earlier, Sen had stormed into the semi finals by overpowering Chou Tien-Chen of Taipei on Friday.
Sen, who was born in Almora in Uttarakhand, was the first male shuttler from India to enter semi-finals of an Olympics.
After the today’s loss, people are still hopeful that Sen will win bronze. “I am confident that Sen will bring broze for India,” said Birendra Rautela.
