Censorship was a key provision of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s emergency in 1970s. After decades, Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency movie was caught in the web of censorship.
Ranaut took to X to announce that the Censor Board has refused to give clearance to her directorial debut movie based on the black days of emergency.
“With a heavy heart I announce that my directorial Emergency has been postponed. We are still waiting for the certification from the Censor Board. A new release date will be announced soon. Thanks for your understanding and patience,” Ranaut said on X.
The movie was caught in the legal wrangling after the Madhya Pradesh High Court asked the Censor Board to look into the matter concerning the objections raised by some Sikh groups against the movie.
After Ranaut’s post, the netizens made all sorts of interesting comments on the controversy surrounding the movie. “Now you understand the real Emergency looks like,” wrote Tarun Gautam.
Some people were critical of the ruling BJP claiming it was “spineless” as it failed to push the movie.
