Radha Raturi on Wednesday took over as the new Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand becoming the first woman to take the job of the top ranking civil servant in the state.
Raturi, an IAS officer of 1988 batch, replaced the incumbent S S Sandhu, who retired on Wednesday after getting six months extension.
Raturi went to the CS office in the secretariat where she was given a warm welcome by the staff and senior bureaucrats in the evening. She also exchanged pleasantries with Sandhu.
Raturi has held many important portfolios including home and CM office in the state. She was also District Magistrate of Tehri and Dehradun.
Significantly, Raturi’s husband Anil Raturi was the DGP of the hill state. He retired few years ago.
This is for the first time in Uttarakhand, may be in India also, that a husband and wife couple held two top posts of the police and civil services.
