After steep rise in temperature in Dehradun and some other parts of Uttarakhand, monsoon rains may bring relief in the next one or two days in the state, met office on Tuesday said.

Light to heavy rains can occur in some parts of the state from tomorrow, said Bikram Singh, Director Met office in Dehradun. He said one or two areas of Kumaon region can experience heavy rains.

However, he said monsoon is slowly withdrawing from parts of India like Gujarat and Rajasthan. In one or two days, monsoon can also withdraw from Haryana and Punjab also. After one week, Singh indicated that monsoon can also withdraw from Uttarakhand. “Monsoon period should continue till September 30,” Singh said.

Singh said the temperature is likely to fall substantially in most parts of the state including Dehradun which recorded 36.2 degree C on Monday, the highest in many years in the month of September. The temperature has been rising steadily in the past few days in Dehradun and some other parts of the state. On Tuesday, Dehradun recorded a maximum of 35.6 degree C.

He said the wind pattern is likely to shift in coming 4-5 days which would also indicate that the monsoon would ebb in the hill state.
