Proud moments for Maj Negi as he receives Sena Medal

More than a year after killing a terrorist despite the fierce retaliatory fire in Kashmir, Maj Rishabh Negi on Saturday received the gallantry Sena Medal for the courageous job.
At a glittering Investiture ceremony held in Hissar in Haryana, Maj Negi received the Sena Medal from Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding in Chief South Western Command. President Droupadi Murmu had announced the award on the eve of the Independence Day last year.
On November 1, 2022, a counter terrorist operation was launched based on specific intelligence input in South Kashmir. On confirmation of the presence of an armed terrorist inside the target house, Maj Negi, as the mission leader tactically sited the fire base and coordinated precise fire of small arms and multi grenade launcher to pin down the terrorist.
The terrorist continued intermittent retaliatory fire taking advantage of cover in the house. Maj Negi showing his presence of mind seized the opportunity and crawled close towards the hiding terrorist under covering fire from his buddy, showcasing exceptional battle craft and raw courage. The terrorist lobbed a grenade and fired towards the officer and his buddy, who responded with precise engagement from a tactically advantageous position resulting in neutralization of terrorist in a close quarter battle without any collateral damage.
For his inspiring leadership under fire, beyond call of duty, Maj Negi of the Corps of Engineers, 3rd battalion, the Rashtriya Rifles, was awarded Sena Medal, a key gallantry award.
“I am feeling proud that I received this medal for neutralizing the terrorist in Kashmir,” said Maj Negi. He said he would continue to serve for the protection of the great country. “We will not let these terrorists to raise their ugly heads,” said Maj Negi.
The whole family of Maj Negi was present in the auditorium when the award was presented. The family members include Maj Negi’s wife Abhilasha and son Reyansh. Besides, Maj Negi’s parents Dr B L Negi and mother, his father in law Anand Ram and mother in law were also present. “We all are feeling very proud of our son Maj Negi,” said Anand, father in law. “My son has made the whole country proud,” said Dr Negi.
