In less than a fortnight after making his IPL debut for Punjab Kings, opener Priyansh Arya (24) on Tuesday scored his splendid maiden IPL T20 century in just 39 balls against Chennai Super Kings, the second fastest by an Indian.

Arya scored 9 sixes and seven fours in his majestic century mauling all the bowlers in an artistic style. The record for the fastest ton by an Indian is held by Yusaf Pathan who struck the century in just 37 deliveries in 2010.

Arya, who made his IPL debut for Punjab Kings in a match against Gujarat Titans on March 25, also joined the ranks of Virat Kohli in an elite list by becoming the only fourth batter in IPL history to hit six on the very first ball of the match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh international stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh against CSK.

The left handed batsman was signed for Rs 3.80 crore by Mohali-based franchise Punjab Kings.

Just when he looked set to score a bigger inning, Arya was caught on the boundary on the bowling of Noor Mohd at 103 (42 balls).

Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest IPL century reaching the milestone in Just 30 balls in Pune in 2013. Pathan in 37 balls and D A Miller in 38 balls are on the second and third position.

Before Arya, Travis Head had also scored an IPL century in 39 balls.
