Pregnant women should get benefits of govt schemes: CS

Pregnant women must get the benefits of the government schemes at the time of delivery as well as for antenatal checkups (ANC) in government hospitals in Uttarakhand,  Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has said.

Raturi directed the Health Department to widely publicize schemes like khushion ki swari so that the pregnant women, especially the poor women living in remote areas, can take the benefit.

While holding a meeting with all the District Magistrates in connection with Pulse Anemia Mega Campaign in the Secretariat on Wednesday, the Chief Secretary directed all the top officials to effectively implement the action plan prepared by NHM to eliminate anemia with the help of various government schemes.

In Uttarakhand, 46.4% pregnant women between 15 to 49 years of age suffer from anemia, whereas the national average in this case is 50.4%.

Raturi directed the Health Department to ensure anaemia diagnosis of all pregnant women in the first stage of pregnancy. Along with this, she has also directed the Education Department to compulsorily record the haemoglobin level of students in the attendance register of schools after testing every month.

All the District Magistrates have been told to make arrangements for regular testing and reporting of anaemia especially among pregnant women and also to work seriously on the action plan of the Health Department to achieve the target of TB free Uttarakhand.

Secretary Dr. R Rajesh Kumar, Additional Secretary Swati Bhadoria along with all the officers of the Health Department and all the District Magistrates were present in the meeting through video conferencing.
