Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was on Tuesday slowly inching toward victory in the Indian general elections, TV channels said quoting trends in the counting of votes.
Significantly, the opposition Indian Alliance where Congress was the major partner was giving a fierce fight especially in states like Uttar Pradesh.
Most of the news channels gave a narrow lead of 50 to 75 seats to the ruling NDA with the opposition showing improvements in Uttar Pradesh and some other states. NDA was ahead in 290 to 300 seats while Indian Alliance was leading in 220-235 seats.
After initially leading in West Bengal, BJP lost momentum against Trinamool Congress as the counting of votes progressed.
Prime Minister Modi was leading in Varanasi seat.
Earlier, exit polls had predicted 300-380 seats for NDA in the 543 member lower house of Parliament called Lok Sabha.
