Who is he?

For more than three decades, Asha Sharma, a mother of two, lived a life full of sadness and despair after she lost her son Monu in Dehradun. In the past few years, Asha had virtually given up all hopes of finding Monu, who remained untraceable.
In the month of July, Asha couldn’t believe her eyes when she found her son Monu sitting in a police station. Soon, Asha brought her son Monu to her home in Patel Nagar area. Monu had told the police that he was kidnapped from Dehradun when he was just a child and was taken to Rajasthan where he was kept as a bonded labourer.
But the happiness of Asha remained short-lived. Monu left for Delhi last fortnight claiming he is going there in search of new job. Thereafter, he remained incommunicado.
Few days ago, Asha was left shell-shocked when she was informed by the Uttarakhand police that her son Monu has been “reunited” with a new family at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. Monu has changed his identity in Ghaziabad under the alias Bhim Singh.
Top police officials monitoring the case are also baffled. They are keeping a close watch on the case where the man with a dual identity was reunited with two different families in Dehradun and Ghaziabad in a short span of five months. The case pertains to Monu Sharma alias Bhim Singh, who has claimed that he was kidnapped as a child and forced to live as a bonded labourer in Rajasthan.
As soon as the Ghaziabad incident came to light, the old story resurfaced in Dehradun where he was living with a different identity of Monu Sharma. During his brief stay in Dehradun, Monu used to quarrel with his parents asking them to throw out his married ‘sister’s children from the house. However, Monu’s alleged father Kapil Dev Sharma in Dehradun said he always had doubts about his son’s real identity. “I only brought Monu to our home as per the wishes of his wife Asha,” said Sharma, who works in a shop.
“We are closely monitoring this case. But so far, we have not filed any FIR,” said SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh.
