Actress Padmini Kolhapure was on Sunday thrilled to find good response from the audience at the special screening of Maali, a movie produced by her husband Pradip Sharma and directed by Shiv Shetty.
The movie made on the environment and mental health themes has been released in theatres across India on Dec 20.
With its setting in the tranquil the mountains of Uttarakhand, Maali also explores the profound relationship between the people of Uttarakhand and nature.
Maali tells the inspiring story of Tulsi, a resilient mountain girl who finds strength and purpose in her deep love for trees. Her life takes a transformative turn when she meets Sakshi, an urban woman struggling with anxiety and trauma. Through Tulsi’s unshakable spirit, Sakshi discovers hope, healing, and the courage to overcome her inner battles.
The film powerfully captures modern-day struggles like loneliness, greed, and ignorance, while shining a light on the vital role women play in caring for both people and the planet. Shot entirely in Dehradun, the movie showcases not only the breathtaking beauty of the valley but also highlights its rich culture and deep love of Tulsi and her father, a gardner, with the nature.
Both father and daughter frequently express their anxiety on the rampant felling of trees for broadening roads.
Maali won Best International Feature Film at the Swedish International Film Festival 2024. Additionally, director Shiv Shetty was honored with the Best Director Narrative Feature award at the 12th Queens World Film Festival 2022. These accolades underscore the film’s global impact and its resonating themes of resilience and hope, the film director said.
Kolhapure sat with the audience and watched the film ‘Mali’ in Silver City multiplex in Dehradun and said that this wonderful film has touched her heart.
Interacting with the audience after the special screening of the film, Kolhapure said that this film has been shot beautifully in your own state Uttarakhand. This is a beautiful film which has been made on a beautiful subject.
She thanked the people who came to the theater in large numbers to watch the film and said that it is very encouraging. She said, ‘It is very sad when the theater is empty but it feels good to see such a large number of audience.’
She asked the people to contribute to the environmental protection. She said, ‘today, when we go out after watching this film and do something for the environment, then the purpose of this film will be successful.
Most of the film has been shot in Dehradun and local actors like Sujata Sharma and Anita Negi have played key roles in the movie.
Kohlapure said that the film is also being shown at Sitara Theatre. Sitara Theatre is a new initiative of my husband Pradeep Sharma and Rahul Mehra and Uttam G, She said.
