In the continuing attacks, a leopard has killed a 3-year old child in Rajpur area of Dehradun, police said on Wednesday.  This is the first such incident in Dehradun in many years.

Ayansh Diman was attacked by the leopard last night when he was standing in the backyard of his house at Singhli village in Dehradun district, Sub-Inspector Sumesh Singh said.

As the child was swiftly taken away by the leopard, a hapless mother started crying. After a night long search operation, the badly mauled body of the child was found on Wednesday morning, 200 meters away in a khud near the village.

After the incident, the angry villagers have asked the forest authorities to immediately capture the leopard.

Eighteen people have been killed in past few months in the raging man-animal conflicts in the state.

Meanwhile, a tiger was tranquilized and captured at Jangalia village in Nainital district on Tuesday. The tiger will be kept under observation to study whether it was responsible for the killing of a couple of people in Bhimtal and other surrounding areas in the district in the past one month, forest officials said.

When contacted, chief wildlife warden Sameer Sinha admitted that there was a spike in the man-animal conflicts in the past few months in the state but asserted that the department would take all steps to mitigate the sufferings of the people.
