Leopard captured in Kimari area

A leopard, which believed to have killed two kids in Dehradun, was captured on Thursday at Kimari area in Dehradun, an official statement said.

Rakesh Negi, Forest Ranger of the Mussoorie forest division, said the leopard was caged at Kimari village after rigorous efforts. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has strongly instructed the forest department to cage the leopard.

With leopard scare gripping parts of Dehradun, the forest department has intensified its search operation using drones and camera-traps and installed 10 cages to capture the wild cat.

Two children were killed and another injured in separate attacks in Dehradun during the past two months.

Forest department sources said chief wildlife warden Samir Sinha was closely monitoring the operation in Raipur, Canal Road, Singhali and other areas on the foothills of Mussoorie.

At least 40 camera traps and 10 cages were installed in the different areas of the Raipur range.  A control room was alsoset up in the Malsi area.

A large number of forest personnel were also patrolling in these areas to keep vigil.
