The stock market on Monday achieved yet another landmark when the benchmark BSE Sensex touched 70,000 mark and the Nifty 21000 for the first time.
Investors were optimistic that the Indian economy was buoyant and FIIs were continuing to pour money into domestic equities, analysts said.
Among the Sensex stocks, Ultratech Cement, Nestle India and Tata Motors continued their upward trend.
In the Nifty midcap, Cummins India and Bharat Forge were the gainers.
By the evening, the BSE Sensex closed at 69,928.53 up 102.93 (o.15%) this evening. Nifty closed at 20,993.85 up 24.45 (0.12%)
The spurt in the rally began after the Dec 3 assembly results which saw BJP storming to power in three big states – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh. Analysts said there was optimism in the market that the general elections results will also give a stable government at the centre. Ends
