After the Uttarakhand High Court’s intervention to find a young woman who went missing in Rishikesh, the police on Saturday claimed to have recovered a minor girl from her lone kidnapper in Rohtak area in Haryana in a different case.
The kidnapper identified as Rajan Sahni (20) has also been arrested and a rape case registered against him. Sahni had had kidnapped the girl from Doiwala area in Dehradun district on Oct 15 last.
Narrating the incident, a top police official said a woman had approached police stating that her minor daughter aged 17 years was kidnapped from her home in Doiwala area in Dehradun district by an unknown accused on Oct 15 last. On the basis of the application, FIR No. 305/24 Section – 137(2) BNS vs unknown was registered at Doiwala police station.
A police team was formed on the instructions of SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh for the safe recovery of the kidnapped girl. After investigating the matter, it came to light that the minor girl was kidnapped by a youth named Rajan Sahni.
The police team continuously raided the possible locations of the accused to recover the girl but the accused was constantly changing his hideouts to avoid his arrest. After rigorous efforts, the police managed to arrest the accused Sahni and recovered the minor girl from village Kharavar, district Rohtak, Haryana.
During interrogation, the minor girl told that the accused had raped her, on which the case was increased under section – 96/64(2)(M) BNS and 5(J)(II)/5L/6 POCSO Act.
Significantly, the recovery of the minor girl came a day after the Uttarakhand High Court, in a different case, sought from the SSP Dehradun about the steps being taken by the police to find a Rishikesh-based girl who was also kidnapped in October. The girl’s brother Sonu Rajbhar had told the High Court that the Rishikesh police officials had refused to file the kidnapping case saying the girl was not minor and hence he should himself trace her.
