ISBT Dehradun gang rape case: SIT set up for probe

The Uttarakhand police on Monday decided to set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the gang rape of a teenage girl at ISBT Dehradun recently.

The eight-member SIT has been set up under SP City Pramod Kumar to investigate the heinous crime with the girl who was found at ISBT Dehradun in a dazed condition.

The incident took place on Monday night. After days of counseling with the girl, an FIR was filed on Saturday evening.

The police has so far arrested five persons in the gang rape case. The accused have been identified as Dharmendra Kumar (32) the bus driver hailing from Banjarawala in Haridwar, Devendra (52), the bus conductor from Bhagwanpur in Haridwar and Rajpal (57) a driver of different bus, a resident of Buggawala, Haridwar, Rajesh Kumar Sonkar (38) the Roadways cashier, resident of Patel Nagar, Dehradun and Ravi Kumar (34), a driver of different bus, resident of Nawabganj, Farrukhabad district, Uttar Pradesh.

The SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh said that the Uttarakhand Roadways bus where the rape took place has been seized and the forensic team has collected necessary evidence from the bus.

According to the police information, the 16-17 year old girl was seen sitting on a bench on platform number 12 of ISBT Dehradun on the intervening night of August 12-13. After getting the information about the teenager, the CWC sent her to the Government Girls Home.

Later, Pratibha Joshi, a member of the CWC, filed an FIR when she revealed the gang rape with her during counseling sessions. On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered at Patel Nagar Police Station under Section 70 (2) of the BNS and POCSO Act 5 (G) / 6.

The SSP said he himself met the victim and got information about the incident, inspected the spot and got the evidence collected scientifically with the help of the forensic team.

According to police, the girl is from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. She first went to Delhi from Moradabad and then took an Uttarakhand Roadways bus from Kashmiri Gate after being misled by the bus conductor Devendra. According to police, she wanted to go to Punjab but the conductor mislead her saying she can go to Punjab from Dehradun via Paonta Sahib.

Initially, the girl claimed her parents are not alive. However, on contacting the family it was found that the victim’s parents are alive and she has gone out of her house many times before without informing anyone. However, every time the family members brought her back. The girl is under some kind of mental stress, family members said.
