India on Sunday took total control of the third test match at Rajkot against England as it set a mammoth target of 557 runs for England. The English team was tottering at 76/7 on the day four in the second-innings.

R Ashwin also rejoined the team and bowled three overs without taking any wicket after he took a short break to be with his ailing mother.

Interestingly, England failed to chase 399 runs in the second test at Visakhapatnam which India won comfortably. The test series is currently tied 1-1.

Only four countries have chased more than 400 runs in the last inning so far in the test history with West Indies on the top when it chased 418 runs to score a stunning victory against Australia in 2003 at Antigua.

South Africa chased 414 runs against Australia in 2008 in the first test of the series at Perth.

India scored a magnificent win over West Indies by scoring 406 chasing a target of 403 runs in the third test at Port of Spain.

Australia has also scored 403 runs against England in 1948 to score the victory at Leeds.
