The Indian Military Academy (IMA) on Thursday celebrated its 92nd Raising Day with elan and traditional gaiety.
On this occasion, Lt Gen Sandeep Jain, Commandant IMA conveyed his appreciation to the fraternity for their dedication and contribution towards the Academy into a world class military institution.
He reminded that the IMA had rendered outstanding service to the Nation by nurturing and producing well trained and professionally capable officers. He urged the Service and civilian employees to work with the same zeal and synergy to bring even greater laurels to the Academy.
As part of the Raising Day celebrations various activities were organized which included felicitation of civilian staff, a barakhana and wreath laying at the war memorial.
The IMA came into existence on 01 Oct 1932. The Academy has a rich history and its alumni have excelled in all spheres of military and sports activities. They have etched stories of heroic valour and outstanding leadership in numerous battlefields, winning many gallantry awards. 905 brave alumni have made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
On this special day, all members of the staff, Officer Cadets, Service and civilian employees rededicated themselves to uphold the glorious legacy of this great institution and its motto: Veerta aur Vivek.
For establishing IMA, the British government transferred the Railway Staff College in Dehradun with its 206 acres campus and associated infrastructure to the army. Brigadier L P Collins was appointed the first Commandant and the first batch of 40 cadets began their training in the IMA from Oct 1, 1932.
