Higher reaches of Uttarakhand receive snowfall

Higher reaches of Uttarakhand on Sunday received heavy snowfall which further intensified cold conditions in the hill state.

Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath and Auli areas in the Garhwal region were continuously experiencing snowfall.

Dhanaulti and some nearby areas of Mussoorie also received mild snowfall. The peaks of the hill resort of Nainital were also lashed by snowfall. Tourists were seen playing with snow at various areas like Dhanaulti and some areas near China Peak in Nainital.

Intermittent light rains also occurred in Dehradun since last night. Dehradun recorded 12.8 degree c maximum temperature which was -6.2 below normal.

The IMD has forecast fresh spell of snowfall and rains in Uttarakhand, Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir from Jan 14 to 17. “A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from the night of Jan 14 which is likely to bring rains and snow in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand,” the IMD said. Plains of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Chandigarh would also experience rains during the period, it said.

Hailstorm was also recorded at isolated places in Rajasthan. Dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to continue in the northern region for few more days.
