Presidential contender Nikki Haley has won Republican primary from the Washington, D.C registering her first victory in the run-up to the 2024 campaign.

Though this is Haley’s first victory in the nominating process, it may not be enough to overcome the challenge posed by former President Donald Trump, who is far ahead of her.

Haley, the only remaining challenger to Trump in the race, won 62.9% of the vote, versus 33.2% captured by the former president.

“It’s not surprising that Republicans closest to Washington dysfunction are rejecting Donald Trump and all his chaos,” Haley campaign spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas said in a statement.

A large number of Indian Americans are actively supporting Haley in her campaign to oust Trump in the final contest against President Joe Biden.

According to media reports, she is the first woman to win a Republican primary in the US history. She has suffered defeats in her home state of South Carolina and also other states recently.

Trump has a huge lead over Haley and is likely to face Biden in the November election, the reports said.
