From Vivekananda to Mahatama Gandhi, the Bhagavad Gita has inspired many prominent personalities in the world.

After opening India’s accounts at the Paris Olympics, Manu Bhakar who became the first woman shooter from India to win bronze, has also given credit to reading the Gita for her latest achievement.

“I read lots of Gita. So what was going through my mind is just do what you are meant to do. Do what you are supposed to do. The destiny you can’t control. In Geeta, Lord Krishna tells Arjuna to focus on your karma and not on the outcome of the karma. So that was the only thing which came to my mind,” Bhaker (22) said after winning the bronze medal at Paris on Sunday.

She said after the Tokyo Olympics where her pistol malfunctioned she was very disappointed and the Geeta helped her in bringing her back to the focus. “Frankly speaking, I really can’t explain how good I am feeling today (Sunday),” she said.

Manu who also won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth games at the age of 16, has also won gold at 2023 World Championship at Baku.

The Haryana girl in her podium finish in the women’s 10m air pistol event in Paris shot 221.7 points to narrowly missed silver.

Interestingly, Jaspal Rana was also sitting in the pavilion to watch his disciple to win bronze. “One look at him and that gives me courage,” she said. Bhaker has also got training at the Jaspal Rana shooting academy at Pondha in Dehradun.

Meanwhile, Ram Krishan, father of Bhaker, said Manu’s efforts and Rana’s coaching have helped a lot in winning bronze.
