Gen convention of Vidyut Pensioners Parishad held

The ninth General Convention of the Vidyut Pensioners Parishad, Uttaranchal was held on Sunday at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers, Dehradun.

The Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Sandeep Singhal, Managing Director of UJVN Limited. The Special Guests included S.C. Baluni, Director Projects, UJVN Limited, Vinay Mishra Director Operations, UJVN Limited, G.S. Budiyal, Director, Operations, PTCUL, and Kamal Sharma, Director Finance, UPCL.

The President of the Vidyut Pensioners Parishad, Uttaranchal R.P. Thapliyal, welcomed the distinguished guests and the members of the parishad. He put up the details about the parishad’s activities and the work done by the previous executive body in his welcome address during the convention. He urged the management of all three power corporations to ensure that pensioners’ issues are addressed both at the corporate and government levels.

The General Secretary of the council G.S. Jain presented a memorandum to the management of the three corporations, highlighting the concerns of the pensioners. The convention also honored pensioners who had completed seventy-five years of age.

*Speeches and Key Highlights*

Chief Guest Dr. Singhal addressed the retired power department personnel coming from all over the state. He acknowledged that today’s progress in the energy sector is very much based on the hard work, dedication and determination of pensioners shown during their service period. He emphasized that the corporations still benefit from the vast experience of the pensioners.

Dr. Singhal stated that Uttarakhand is moving rapidly towards becoming an energy state. Along with hydropower, the state is also expanding into non-conventional sources of energy. He highlighted significant progress in green energy, battery energy storage systems, and geothermal energy alongwith other such sources  of energy. He assured that presently pensioners’ issues are being addressed promptly at the corporate level and will continue to be resolved on priority basis in future also.

Vinay Mishra, Director Operations, remarked that pensioners are the legacy of the corporation and the management is always positive towards resolving their concerns.

S.C. Baluni, Director Projects shared insights about new projects and acknowledged that the ongoing work is a continuation of the foundations laid by pensioners during their service.

G.S. Budiyal, Director Operations, PTCUL stated that the corporation is consistently achieving excellence in power generation and transmission and has completed several projects in recent years.

Kamal Sharma, Director Finance, UPCL, discussed the financial status of the corporation and appreciated the contributions of retired employees during their tenure.

On this occasion, the souvenir of the Vidyut Pensioners Parishad was also released by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. The souvenir included details of the council’s activities and creative contributions by its members.

*Election of the New Executive Body*

During the second session of the convention, representatives from various branches presented updates on their activities and concerns to the central executive committee. Elections for the new executive body for the upcoming term were conducted under the supervision of R.S. Sehgal and L.M. Dobriyal, resulting in the unanimous selection of the following office bearers:

The convention witnessed the participation of a large number of parishad members, including those residing in Uttarakhand and other states.

The members expressed confidence that the newly elected executive body will actively work towards resolving pensioners’ issues.
