For the UJVN ltd, a state-run power generation company in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand, the old projects are virtually turning out to be gold.
The UJVN ltd has generated the highest amount of electricity from Galogi hydroelectric project located near the hill resort of Mussoorie in Dehradun district. The project was set up during the British rule in 1907.
The 3.5 Mw Galogi Hydroelectric Project has generated 8.075 million units of electricity in the financial year 2024-25, which is the highest since its commissioning, said Dr Sandeep Singhal, Managing Director of the UJVN Ltd. The previous record was 7.96 million units in the financial year 2023-24.
“For our company this project is very historical. It is noteworthy that the Galogi a small Hydroelectric Project was established during the British rule, whose main objective was to supply electricity and water to the Mussoorie region,” said Dr Singhal.
In those days, after Calcutta (now Kolkata), Darjeeling and Shimla, electricity distribution system was probably available only in Mussoorie. This project is one of the few hydroelectric plants established during the British period which is successfully fulfilling its objectives of water supply along with electricity generation even today.
Dr. Singhal congratulated all the officers and employees of the UJVN Ltd for the record production of the project and hoped that they will continue to work with the same dedication and commitment in the future and set new dimensions of electricity generation.
