As Australia begins its campaign for the T20 World Cup on June 5 against Oman, the focus will be on its star batter Travis Head who is in excellent form these days.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has picked Head to be the highest run-scorer at the T20 World Cup 2024 in the US and West Indies.

After scoring a magnificent century in the world cup final against India, Head has excelled in the just concluded IPL 2024 scoring 567 runs in 15 matches for SunRisers Hyderabad. His average was 40 with superb strike rate of 191.

He stood fourth in the list of IPL 2024 most runs – orange cap holder after Virat Kohli (741), Ruturaj Gaikwad (583) and Riyan Parag (573).

Head has kept his form intact after scoring century in the final match against India that helped Australia to win the world cup for the sixth time in November last year. He was the seventh batter in the world to score a century in the final in the world cup. Remember, no Indian has scored a century in the final so far.  If you see the list, except Adam Gilchrist, all other six players were top regular batters.

In the T-20 world cup, Australia is placed in Group B along with England, Namibia, Oman and Scotland. All eyes will be focused on Head as Australia starts its campaign on June 5 against Oman.  “My prediction for the leading run scorer will be Travis Head,” said Ponting on ICC Review Podcast.
