People in and around Transport Nagar in Dehradun early Wednesday woke up to the thunderous sounds of firecrackers which caught fire in a shop.
However, no one was injured in the fire which broke out at around 3 AM in Transport Nagar Phase-II in the shop where firecrackers were stored illegally. The reason behind the fire could not be ascertained.
On getting the information, a police team along with fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the fire. By the time fire tenders began dousing the fire, one more shop caught fire.
However, the fire was brought under control by the fire brigade within one hour.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun Ajai Singh directed the police to take action against the concerned shop operator, following which an FIR under Section 288/ 326 (G) BNS and Section – 4 Explosive Substances Act was registered against Pawan Anand in Kotwali Patel Nagar in relation to illegal storage and negligence of explosive substances.
The SSP has directed all the police station incharges and the Chief Fire Officer of Dehradun to check the storage of firecrackers in their respective areas, check the safety norms of legal storages and take strict legal action against illegal storages.
