Farmers busy in wheat harvesting in Dehradun city

PrashantNews

With the wheat harvesting at its peak, there are several patches left in Dehradun city where people are still cultivating agriculture crops despite rapid urbanization.

But in the most of the city, especially after Dehradun became the capital of Uttarakhand, the agriculture land has almost shrunk with the famous Doon basmati which was once known for its rich aroma and taste, becoming a thing of the past. Trees are also falling prey to the urbanization.

“Dehradun was a place known for its good climate. But sadly, we have virtually lost everything including the canals. The temperature has considerably gone up and there is hardly any place left for the agriculture,” said Rajendra Badoni, a Doonite.

Most of the litchi and tea gardens are in shambles and the serenity of the city has gone. Even rivers like Rispana and Bindal have now become highly polluted.
