DGP Kumar suggest measures for traffic decongestion

In an initiative to check the heavy traffic congestion in Uttarakhand, Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar on Tuesday suggested some long and short term measures for the decongestion which include peak-hour police visibility and identifying spots where accidents chances are high.
For this purpose, the DGP organized a meeting on the traffic planning and road safety measures in the police headquarters which was attended to by several top police officials.
Mukhtar Mohsin, Director Traffic police, gave a presentation regarding the problems arising out of the increase in the vehicular traffic in the state. Mohsin said the number of registered vehicles in the state have gone up to 33 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, the DGP Kumar said the traffic management is among the top priorities of the state government. He said the manpower for management of the traffic will be increased through UPNL. In this regard, he said a proposal for the recruitment of more home guards and PRD jawans should be forwarded to the government. The DGP also called for the auditing of the traffic system.
The DGP said in all those districts where fatality rate is high, the presence of the traffic personnel should be increased. He also called for identifying black spots where accidents are high and preparing a data-base in this regard. Kumar gave strong instructions to the police that vehicles should not be parked in front of commercial and residential complexes. Ends
