Amid searing heat wave conditions, Dehradun on Friday recorded all-time high maximum temperature of 43.2 degree C in the month of May breaking previous record of 43.1 observed on May 30, 2012.
“43.2 is the all time high record for the month of May in Dehradun,” said Bikram Singh Director Met office in Dehradun. Heat wave was also continuing in the Kumaon region with Pantnagar recording 42.1 degree C .
The Maximum temperature of 43.2 in Dehradun was 7.3 notches above the normal. However, there was some respite in the minimum temperature which fell a few notches to 25.4 degree C. The nearby hill resort of Mussoorie recorded 24.6 degree maximum temperature which was a relief.
But Singh said there may be some respite from the heat wave from Saturday as light showers are likely to occur in parts of Uttarkahand including Deradun with the possibility of a dust storm.
In its local forecast report for Dehradun, the Met office said the heat wave conditions may continue tomorrow also.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the prevailing heat wave conditions in the country particularly in the central and north-western regions may abate during the next 2-3 days.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has advanced into remaining parts of northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of northwest Bay of Bengal.in the next 2-3 days, the monsoon may advance to southern Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and most parts of Kerala.
