Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati on Friday reiterated his demand for declaring cow as “rashtra mata”.
Speaking at a function in Dehradun, Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati also asked the people not to vote parties who support the cow slaughtering in the country.
Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati reached Dehradun as part of his Go dhwaj Sathapna Bharat Yatra which started on Sept 22 from Ayodhya.
Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, who has covered almost all the northeastern states, also said India was not a secular country as the word secularism was added through the 42nd constitutional amendment. “In the original constitution, the secularism was not there,” he said. In this context, he said there was no harm in declaring cow as “rashtra mata”.
Speaking on the occasion, state Congress Vice President Surya Kant Dhasmana lauded the efforts of Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati on seeking ban on cow slaughter. He said the pledge to declare the cow as “rashtra mata” was taken in Dehradun. He also felicitated Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati by offering him a shawl.
