Crime literature festival to begin in Doon from Nov 29

The second edition of the crime literature festival of India will begin in Dehradun from Nov 29 to Dec 1 complete with incisive discussions and transformative storytelling.

This year’s festival boasts a lineup of trailblazers, including celebrated filmmakers Prakash Jha and Anubhav Sinha alongside the acclaimed writer of the Sabarmati Report, Avinash Singh Tomar.

With sessions ranging from the anatomy of organized crime to the complexities of law enforcement, the festival bridges the realms of literature, cinema, and justice.

Among the luminaries gracing this year’s event are: Surender Mohan Pathak, legendary author of over 300 Hindi crime novels, who will be honored with the festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award for reshaping Indian crime fiction. Hussain Zaidi, celebrated crime author and Meeran Borwankar former Maharashtra DGP and author (Madam Commissioner), would also participate and share their experience. Vijay Kumar, the head of the team that captured sandalwood smuggler Veerappan would unravel the challenges of high-stakes operations.

Zeishan Quadri, writer of Gangs of Wasseypur, and Randeep Jha, director of Kohrra and Trial by Fire, would try to examine the nexus between crime and cinema.

A special highlight will be the recognition of students from prestigious schools and universities for their contributions to crime-themed short stories and films. Students from esteemed institutions such as St. Joseph’s Academy, Welham Girls’ School, and Welham Boys’ School, along with other renowned public schools, have submitted thought-provoking short stories, showcasing their creative perspectives on crime-related topics .

Ashok Kumar, Former DGP of Uttarakhand and Festival Chairperson, remarked, “Raising awareness is the first step in preventing crime. This platform not only highlights the complexities of justice but also celebrates the work of storytellers who challenge societal norms and inspire action.”

Aloke Lal, Former DGP of Uttarakhand and Festival Director, echoed this sentiment: “CLFI is a confluence of ideas, experiences, and voices. By bringing together luminaries and emerging talent, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of crime and justice through the lens of literature and cinema.”
