A brawl erupted between journalists and Congress workers led by state Congress President Karan Mahra at the police line in Dehradun on Wednesday during a cricket match organized by the Uttarakhand Press Club.
However, no one was injured in the incident at a stadium in the police line. The police later dispersed the Congress workers from the ground where the cricket match was being played, Uttaranchal Press Club President Ajay Rana said. “A group of Congress workers led by Karan Mahra entered into the stadium raising slogans and started disrupting the match. When we tried to stop them (Congress workers), they started roughing up journalists,” Rana claimed. The Press Club has also written a letter to Congress leader Kumari Shailaja, who is the party’s incharge of Uttarakhand in this regard.
Rana said a meeting of the Club has been convened tomorrow to protest against the incident and chalk out next strategy.
However, Mahra said the incident happened after the police brought the workers at the match venue following a rally by the youth Congress workers against the unemployment. Mahra denied the allegations that the Congress workers were involved in any kind of scuffle with the journalists. “We were not involved in any kind of scuffle,” said Mahra.
