CM for restoring website, online services by Monday after malware attack

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday expressed concern over a recent malware attack on the state data centre that crippled works of several government departments and asked the officials to restore the all the important websites and online services by Monday.

After the attack, the Chief Minister convened a high level meeting to take stock of the situation and asked the officials to take immediate remedial steps.

During the meeting, IT Secretary Nitesh Jha told the Chief Minister there was no data loss due to the malware attack on the virtual machines of the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) which is the main centre for the government’s various initiatives and projects. Only 11 machines out of the total 1378 were affected by the malware attack, Jha said.

The Chief Minister said a cyber security task force would soon be set up to ward off such attacks in future. A disaster recovery centre will also be established in this regard, the Chief Minister said. A safety audit of all online services and datacenters would also be done, Dhami said.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to review the performance of the technical company which is hired for the maintenance of computer systems by the ITDA.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to restore all the systems so that the government functioning of the various departments should resume by Monday.

The government e-offices and the CM’s helpline have been restored, an official statement said.

Interestingly, it was revealed in the meeting that the attacked occurred on October 2, a national holiday on account of the Gandhi Jayanti.

  1. CM has taken right steps in restoring online web services affecting many of the state offices. But such attack of malware should not be taken lightly. This time official data has not been lost as stated. But in future such thing can happen.
    India is the biggest supplier of IT professionals all over the world. Time has come to develop India’s own surwer and other IT products required for running official work smoothly.
