Garkari lays foundation stones/inaugurate 38 highways worth Rs 6967 cr

Union Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Garkarri on Tuesday laid the foundations stones and held inauguration ceremonies for 38 national highways with a cost of Rs 6967 crore in Uttarakhand.
Garkari participated in these ceremonies in two separate functions – one in Tanakpur in Kumaon region and other in Haridwar in Garhwal region.
In the first ceremony in Tanakpur town of Champawat district, Garkarri laid the foundation stones for eight national highway projects in Kumaon region costing Rs 2217 crore.
In the second ceremony, he inaugurated and laid ceremonial foundation stones for 30 highways in Garhwal region with a cost of Rs 4750 crore. Speaking in Haridwar, Garkari said the total length of the highway in Uttarakhand prior to 2014 was 2517 km which over the 10 years has now gone up to 3608 km in 2024.
After the Rs 12000 crore Chardham highway project in Garhwal, the centre has started focusing on Manaskhand to boost the road connectivity in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami along with other state top BJP leaders were present in the functions.
Gardkari said the Kathgodam-Nainital road is being widened to two lane paved shoulder road which would provide better connectivity in the region which is known for its famous temples. Kashipur-Ramnagar highway will be widened to four-lane that would boost the connectivity to the famous Jim Corbett National Park which is known for the healthy population of tigers and elephants.
