CBI arrests LIC engineer on graft charges

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested Assistant Executive Engineer (Electrical) in Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) on corruption charges in Dehradun, an official statement said.

Bhagwati Prasad, the AEE in LIC’s Divisional Office, Haridwar Road, Dehradun was arrested when he was allegedly accepting Rs 15,000 as first installment of the bribe amount of Rs. 40,000 from the complainant, the statement said.

The CBI registered a case on the basis of the complaint alleging that the accused has demanded a bribe of Rs 57,000 from the complainant towards payment of his pending bills and commission for the bills already paid, which on repeated requests was settled as bribe of Rs. 40,000.

After getting the complaint, the CBI laid a trap in and around LIC office and caught the accused “red handed” while accepting bribe amount of Rs. 15,000 from the complainant, the statement said.

The residential premises of the accused are being searched.
