Bond turns 90, celebrates bday in Mussoorie

Ruskin Bond, the bard of Landour, who gave the popular character Rusty along with many top novels and short stories, on Sunday, turned 90.

Bond, who was born in Kasauli, celebrated his birthday in the hill resort of Mussoorie in a simple manner in the company of his family members and friends.

After studying in Shimla, Bond made the picturesque Landour in Mussoorie as his home town where he wrote many novels and stories including those related to ghosts.

People took to the social media to congratulate Bond on his 90th birthday. Satish Sharma, Editor Garhwal Post, dedicated a full page article in his newspaper on how his bonding with the writer began in 1990s when he started publishing the English daily.

In an interaction with the media, Bond recounted an interesting anecdote in Konark Sun temple where he paid extra money for being seen as a foreigner just to avoid an argument while a Sardarji who was behind him was not asked to pay extra bucks despite being a foreign citizen.

He also gave reasons on why he didn’t marry after having a courtship with a Vietnamese girl. He said he didn’t feel like marrying.
